‘A Shock to the System’
Published online at The Eerie Digest/The Arts & Entertainment Magazine in the USA
14th November 2011 (Written in 1994)

A loving tribute to Boris Karloff , James Whale, and the 30’s Frankenstein films of Universal, this is one of Glenn’s earliest Horror tales, and has drawn heart-warming praise from Sara Jane Karloff, the great actor’s daughter. Old Baron Frankenstein gets a little more than he bargains for when he disinters a corpse to study what animates it after death, as the vampire concerned is not a happy bunny...

‘A Shock to the System’ was performed live on Glenn’s behalf by Michael. R. Brush at a ‘42 Open Mic Night Special’ devoted to Frankenstein, and the 80th anniversary of the release of Karloff’s original film.

On inaugurating the opening night of the ‘42’ Genre-Specific open mic night, Glenn and Angela James invited participating writers to contribute serialised works, so that they could present a piece across a number of evenings and develop their themes.  Glenn penned and performed the first serial for 42, a supernatural historical thriller set in ancient Worcester Cathedral, wherein two burglars breaking into the tomb of King John have a very nasty surprise.  The full story was carried by The Eerie Digest, across three issues of the publication.

‘Norseman on the Threshold’ was dedicated to the late Leonard Amesbury, by his friend the author.

‘Crookbarrow’
Published online at The Eerie Digest/The Arts & Entertainment Magazine in the USA

A kind of dreamlike Pagan-Goth horror story, Glenn believes this tale is the closest he has got to classic Hammer films, although ‘Crookbarrow’ was inspired by a vivid dream.  A lonely writer, finding solace in a mysterious beauty spot he has been curious about since childhood, is tempted by a strange, beautiful girl into a terrifying world of ancient gods and unearthly fate.

In 2011 Glenn was the headlining prose artist at Parole Parlate: The Spoken Word event, at the first ever Worcestershire Literary Festival.  His chosen piece, which he performed live, was ‘Crookbarrow.’
